PostSubject: Hello   Wed 12 Nov 2008, 5:03 am

Hello,
some of you already know me. I was in game for a few hours and had a lot of questions to you about mining and mining factions in general. Donīt take it personal when i say itīs a hard place for miners. My roleplay failed due different facts so i donīt think i have a real chance here. But i would like to thank all players who helped out with info about this mod. Thank you!

Best regards
Catherine Smile

Hey dont leave so fast we have been aware for a while that we had issues with mining areas and we are working on fixing them, as we have the auto updater a fix for this wont take long, so stick around.....you wont be disappointed.

If you need a good mining run to tide you over then i recommend the druid fluid run in the abyss Wink

PostSubject: Re: Hello   Wed 12 Nov 2008, 5:50 am

Ive tried to start mining-business in the defender. As i roleplay this game i looked for some mine fields..Dublin, New London, Dresden etc.
Ive mined in New London first. After i had my cargo space full with stuff (Selenium?..cant remember) i went around to see where a place is around for sale. After about 30 stations with no result i sold it for 300 credits each with a bad feeling left because someone told me to sell it in TAU-31 for a huge amount of credits.

A mining ship is about 420 millions..it take weeks to get my beautiful feet off the ground. On the other hand i cannot go mine far away in my starter ship.. hostile npc would strike me down or some trigger happy pie-rats would be after me all time. Traders can start ten times easier.. they can do what they want in the vanilla systems and go rich more than fast..tax is here just peanuts. Sure not everything is about money and roleplay is more important than cash but thats not the point..the balance is the point here.

I didnt find either an IMG pilot ID to buy..Searched at all IMG stations in sight but didnt find one..just an IMG pilot for an unbelievable amount of cash. As there is no existing Mining Faction (only fantasy clans) here reliable to FL thats why i think i understand why its such hard for me to play as a simple freelancing person without a direction.

I could point out many other things i dont like but i stop here to avoid confusion. Drop in maybe again to begin fresh but i havent high hopes.

To Dragnite: How can i reach the abyss on my actual level 16?

To be honest, we had a severe lack of players willing to do miner-roleplay in the extend you are planning.
As I told you in game, we are a flexible team and adapting the server to player wishes so if you have ideas about the mining market, the ways it should look like, if you can tell us how the miner roleplay worked for you in the past, which things you missed on your past servers and so on then we are willing to adapt our server. We always worked on satisfying our players and simply kept the mining business small as noone asked for it.
Give us a few ideas and a week time and you'll se the world can change Smile

The prices for large, industrial ships are MEANT to be high. There is no question about that. The mining ship can easily make the money you pay for it, back in a day. You need to start small and work your way up, even if you just start by trading, you will eventually get to mining.

When I got enough money for a Condor, it took me 19 hours to make $420million. That is nothing! No time at all!

Please explain why on earth you would need to go to the outersystems to mine. 92 out of 131 of the minefields are in the INNER systems. Just because 39 of the minefields are in the outer systems, it doesn't mean to say they are going to make you more profit.

For example, You mine Calcite in New York. You deliever it to Unknown 2 and it sells for a hell of alot of money. I don't see the problem of being taken down by any NPC factions in New York ...

It also might be of use for you to know that there at not that many trigger happy pirates, and I think you would be stating the obvious to say that they would be "coming after me". If you choose to be any other faction than unlawful, then of course you are going to get the attention of unlawfuls.

Traders start like Freelancers do. They start from scratch. ALL clan factions (Unlawful, Lawful, Trader and Merc) get specific advantages, clan advantages. Freelancers also get advantages, some of which you will encouter as you spend time on the server.

Yes, Freelancer roleplay is a weak point, I do admit that. But it costs to maintain a clan, which is why they have a priority. Freelancer roleplay needs improved, which is exactly what is happening. And the only thing you need to do is WAIT. Patience is what is needed.

IMG's rep hack or any other NPC faction for that matter can be gained simply by paying 25 million credits. READ the post "Proclamation from your benefactor" in the rep edit section.

I do believe you that it's hard to start as a Freelancer. Trust me, I did it not so long ago, I created my own roleplay guidlines and followed them untill I had created my own little mini empire, and at that time I thought it was right to join a clan.

As you say, there is a problem with the mining front (that is being sorted), All you have to do is wait a little longer. And that's not much to ask considering the advantages that the miners will be getting.

Rank is nothing to do with that. It's your ability that is. You can reach The Abyss in a Freki, if you go for it Wink

Hi and thank you for the post, it's as hame you didn't stay. And although the following won't help you it may help other readers.

The cost differentials/economy all work (personally I think it is too generous) but not if you have just moved from another mod with their metrics.

And the start cash is to stop people creating/deleting multiple characters and saving the money. A frequent abuse of many mods.

You also didn't help things by using an escort class vessel, holds don't come much smaller. We have a wider range of ships types and for the minig a small hold is not ideal.

Most of the inner systems are "mined out" although Selinimm sells for 2200 in Tau 29 and 3441, in Unknown 3. In inner systems Deuterium is probably the best bet. It can only be mined and sells for between 3600/8700 per unit. 600 in Alaska and 6600 in Kepler, both 2-3 systems from where mined.

An earlier MonkeyTimes post has indicated commodity crunch on the way and one of those is a gold rush, guess from where? Yep mining.

We are also modding a Mining CSV as a small miner in response to recent posts, and I am planning to convince admins about another ship, a medium miner, but it is from a SciFi show, hence the need to convince.

Interesting some of the biggest paying commodities (Druid Fluid (41525 per unit)/ Unstable Isotopes)/Deuterium are mine only, but not on the doorstep, they are something to aspire to.

Pity [IMG]

Mining is great here, miner_iorek and myself have some nice little Deuterium runs. In a CSV (250 hold) you can mine in Califormia and get 2.1 million (2400 per unit) if you take to Nago Station in Tau 29, 2 systems away. So the outer systems must be better when I can afford to get there.

To really corner the market you need to know where the best prices are.
So before starting the mining operation you should flit around visiting as many bases as possible in the 'safe' systems. I know it's a bit of a job but it's well worth spending those few hours needed. Imagine being able to sell for twice the amount just 1 system further away and you not knowing because you didn't explore.
Anyway, people on the server are all very friendly and probably won't mind giving you a few pointers to good prices if you ask them. (more fun to explore imho)

PostSubject: Re: Hello   Wed 12 Nov 2008, 9:23 pm

As I tried to explain to you - we offer the startup cash to everyone. I may be wrong - but I doubt that you would have objected to the startup cash if it had been on your ship when the character was created. As MPA Tunicle pointed out - there are reasons why we don't do that.

This is the way it does work. Every time somebody creates a character - they start at Level 34. The MPs watch for those players. Then we look at how many characters the player has on his account. If there is only one - we ask the player if they are NEW to Monkey Universe.

If they are - we try to give them a warm and fuzzy greeting - $3,000,000 in cash - and as much information as they can stand. That might seem like a lot of cash - but it is NOT in Monkey Universe. Without it - your options are very limited - as I think you found out. It is enough to purchase a slightly better ship and supply you with some Bots / Bats / and CMs - and not a lot more. The cash WILL raise your Level though - which I think is what you were afraid of. It will raise it all the way from Level 34 to 36.

Pardon me if I don't see that as a big thing. You see - I know that we have a Server Rule that states (basically)
Nobody Touches A Player Under Level 50
Staying under Level 50 can be difficult though. It is not the amount of cash you have - it is how you have outfitted your ship. Adding a better Shield or Armor - oops. Of course you could also do it the easy way. Simply create a character with a leading [] and nobody would bother you.

If you had accepted the startup cash - you could have bought the CVS in Rochester for a measly $1m - then put weapons on it that would work just as well as the weapons on a Mining Ship. Mining Turrets are not all that special. Sure - they convert a rock into the element it hides - but any low power weapons can do that. The only real difference is that they don't have the word "MINING" anywhere in their name.

OR - you could have done as I suggested. You could have bought that CVS to done a little trading. By now - you would have been really close to owning that Mining Ship. All it takes is a little time and effort.

Then there are any number of players who could have helped you. Some do it with advise - others give lessons in fighting - there is even a few foolish players who will bankroll other players (if there is a good reason). Most of us will help if we can. Sure - we do ask a LOT. Knowing that the person we are helping has what it takes to stick around for a while - well - that does wonders for us.

I don't know why we are so determined to make Monkey Universe into a place that is perfect for everyone. It seems foolish to me. Not the effort - that is very noble and reflects on the nature of the Admin and Mod team. I have no doubt about it - they will make the effort and Monkey Universe will be a better place for Miners.

No - I am referring to you. I don't mean to be harsh - but I just don't see why we should bother with you. There were a LOT of things that you could have done - but you found one reason after another why you could not do them.

OK - so Monkey Universe is not the perfect place for a Miner. At least it is not the perfect place for a Miner who will not make ANY compromise from their idea of THE WAY IT SHOULD BE!

OF COURSE - YOU COULD PROVE ME WRONG!
I Hope you do:)

Have to put a mark here study

Miners do not buy cargo to gain profit. They buy food, fuel and ship parts and ammo, ... for personal use, but they NEVER purchase goods to gain profit of! We are Miners!

Otherwise we would be called traders!

Catherine, lets do some mining wing by wing, .... bounce Strictly business Wink

PostSubject: Re: Hello   Thu 13 Nov 2008, 6:29 am

Thank you for your kindly responses. I see many posts with many important things. So let me try answer your suggestions and comments in a short way.

a. Startup Cash: Im glad to see your point of view here. Personnaly I have only bad thoughts about that from the last place ive tried to play where poeple give you startup cash to kill you over and over again in a counterstrike manner and nobody cares or help and even admins laugh about that (different story though). Im glad like you that this case wont happen here.

b. Basic Gameplay: Nobody wants you to make a perfect server for all players. You wanted me to post in forums about mining and i did. I donīt even expect "goldrush mining zones" or a safe gaming until level 60. That i asked for an IMG ID card is a simple thing. I am into my role. If i should cant play an IMG well ok. But nobody asked you put some into the game. It was just a question. All i have tried to point out was the difference between mining and trading..and in my opinion there is one but nobody wants you to change that for a single person.

Actually i am on level 13 in Zeta Orionis and god knows where that is. I have only the orginal systems as a map in my head so i have to map everything first like you said here in your post. No problem with that..thats a basic part of the game and you are right here.

I know. Some systems cant be visited without dying hundred times. Iīve tried to leave TAU-37 and died a lot by nomad-attacks so i lost my Cardamine 3 times over and over. Did i whine about that or complained it..NO ! Even Clan docking rings killed me too several times as i thought i found a friendly planet to dock and sell my stuff.
Nothing but a smart trap but even thats ok to me.

c. Mining:
When i talk about mining i dont think of using only Mining stuff, mining ships, mining lasers. I only try to play my role as best as i can to be a part of the RP community. Thats all.
I respectfully disagree that i do no compromises at all. I actually made more than you suggest. I think what you are confused about is the way i ask about basic things. You put me in a Freiki with Firekisses on it. So i need first to sort things out on server. Buy different weaps, a civilian ship, finding a s mall nice mining field for personal use. Thats all. If i say the mining ships are too expensive for what they are(old vanilla style) ..from my perspective this is right..i have only this sight of things as a beginner on that level. No matter what you tell me about all the wonderful heavenly things you have seen in this mod and me not.

This is not a complaint..just a few thoughts from a person that likes to roleplay.

Thank you, NP with your reply we are a mature server and let people act like adults Smile We encourage sensible discourse and any Admin that starts totally ****ing about will soon not be an admin.

Don't worry about the goldrushes etc. they are in the pipeline, as are various commodity crashes (But don't let GVT know Wink ). MonkeyTimes have hinted at these.

We are currently setting up faction templates as you may have noticed to try and enhance RP, I am sure an IMG can happen.

Some players choose a faction pilot to play. Whilst the miner pilot is a lot, it is only needed for the big ship and is their for RP purposes. However, an [IMG] pilot can be purchased at, mmm, just looked they can't be, we will change that soon Smile However, they do exist and maybe a nice merc or pirate will procure one Very Happy

Also changing commodities so that all pilots are available to buy somewhere, and I have a new mining-CSV based on the first. Just needs hardpoints etc added, has extra claw, bigger cargo and no cargo doors to hinder getting those rocks in.

And of course agreement from admins that it can be added Smile

After doing a long time mining again without any good efforts or results i want to say thank you for the comments and the posts. I feel it makes me more down with mining than its fun here.

A bit more than 1 million in 35 minutes with deuterium. 2 times full cargo lost is a bit too much for a beginner. Ive tried more than 25 commods to get my feet off the ground and there was no result beside you got the money to repair your ship and buy an endless amount of CMīs just to realize every little npc keeps you from cruising away no matter how many cmīs you use.

I dont see a real good future here for me and my idea of a miners roleplay. So dont worry about my questions and enjoy your mod.
Would i be a trader i may would like it here much.

A big "Thanks" goes to Duncan, all MP tagged admins, rasputin, all i forgot (sorry) and last not least Miner-Iorek!!

Thank you..Good Luck
